Getting Started and Requirements

What do participants do?+

Participants take part in agent-moderated research studies to help founders, research teams, startups, and D2C brands understand consumer needs and improve their offerings.

As a broad research interview platform, these studies go beyond standard UX testing and include conversational interviews, reviewing visual stimuli, and usability testing.

You will interact with Our Agent, answer its questions, and verbalize your thoughts to provide authentic insights.

How does an agent-moderated study work?+

Instead of a human researcher or a static list of tasks, an advanced agent guides you through the session.

It asks questions in real time, listens to your responses, and may ask dynamic follow-up questions based on what you say.

You can converse naturally, just as you would with a human researcher.

Why is a quiet environment and clear speech critical?+

Because you are conversing directly with Our Agent, exceptional audio clarity is essential.

Background noise, echoes, chatter, or unclear speech can cause misunderstandings, poor transcription, or interrupted interview flow.

You must be in a quiet, distraction-free room and speak clearly at normal conversational volume.

What equipment do I need to participate?+

You need a desktop or laptop (Windows 8+ or recent macOS) with a modern browser (latest Chrome, Firefox, or Edge), or a mobile device (Android app or iOS app).

A high-quality working microphone is required so Our Agent can process your audio accurately.

Use a stable internet connection and a completely quiet environment.

In what language should I speak during studies?+

Speak in the language specified for the study, currently English only.

You will not be asked to use a language in which you are not fluent.

If additional language support is added, participants will be notified.

What are screener questions?+

Screener questions confirm whether you match client criteria (for example, experience with a specific product or category).

Some studies may also use video screeners as part of the qualification process.

There is no compensation for only passing screeners; payments are made only for successfully completed studies.

Responses are kept confidential and used only for matching, then deleted per the data retention policy.

Honest answers avoid wasted effort and improve study validity.

Can I participate on my mobile phone or tablet?+

Yes. Depending on the study, you may be asked to use desktop, mobile phone, or tablet.

For mobile sessions, use the Android app, iOS app, or mobile browser if specified.

Install the latest app version, grant required permissions (microphone and screen recording), and follow device-specific instructions.

Why is it important for me to complete my profile details?+

Completing your profile with precise information ensures a better experience.

  • Better matching: Profile details help match you to studies aligned with your background.
  • Increased eligibility: Truthful details improve qualification rates and reduce mid-study screen-outs.
  • Platform integrity: Honest profiles help clients receive authentic insights from verified participants.

Study Standards and Ratings

When are studies available?+

Invitations are sent when clients launch research that matches your demographics and screener responses.

Notifications arrive by push notification and email (if enabled).

Accept promptly to secure assignments. Missing or declining an invite does not penalize your rating but may reduce earning opportunities.

What do I need to do during a study?+

Follow Our Agent's instructions carefully and treat it like a human interviewer.

Listen fully before answering and think aloud when reviewing visual stimuli or usability tasks.

  • Enable Do Not Disturb mode.
  • Close unrelated apps.
  • Ensure a quiet environment.
  • Check internet stability and microphone settings before starting.
Do participants need to purchase products or services?+

No. Some studies may include simulated checkout tasks, but you should never provide real payment or sensitive personal information.

Use dummy credentials only when instructed.

What makes a good participant?+

Good participants interact naturally with Our Agent, think aloud clearly, and stay focused on prompts.

  • Answer thoroughly and remain on topic.
  • Speak clearly in a quiet environment.
  • Avoid long silent gaps.
  • Give constructive feedback on both positives and issues.
Can I use emulators, keyboards, or other accessories?+

Only if explicitly allowed in the study instructions.

Always follow stated guidelines to keep results valid.

What types of studies will I participate in?+

You may participate in conversational interviews, visual feedback sessions (ads, prototypes, video flows), and live website or app usability testing.

Always follow confidentiality requirements in the Terms of Service.

What do tasks typically involve?+

Tasks vary by study and may include:

  • Open-ended interview questions about lifestyle, preferences, or professional background.
  • Reviewing visual stimuli and explaining reactions and preferences to Our Agent.
  • Usability tasks such as registration flows, navigation, or checkout simulations without real payment.
What kind of questions will I be asked?+

Our Agent may ask you to elaborate on statements, explain your reasoning, recall details, or provide feedback on navigation, design, and overall experience.

Speak clearly and provide honest, detailed answers.

What should I do if I encounter technical problems?+

If you face issues like microphone failure, disconnects, or app/browser crashes, troubleshoot first by restarting, checking permissions, and verifying internet.

If issues continue, email support@usertestpro.com with your study ID immediately.

Unresolved technical failures may affect payment and rating.

What is a participant rating?+

After each study, clients rate feedback quality on a 1-5 star scale.

High ratings (4-5) indicate clear communication, strong adherence to instructions, and excellent audio quality, increasing future invitation chances.

Lower ratings reduce assignment frequency.

How does the star rating system work?+
  • 5 stars: Extremely helpful feedback, clear communication with Our Agent, low noise, thoughtful insights, and complete task completion.
  • 1 star: Feedback unusable due to unreadable audio, missing commentary, interruptions, incomplete uploads, or misleading demographics.
  • Tip: Speak clearly, keep the environment quiet, listen fully before responding, and upload complete recordings promptly.
What could prevent me from getting paid?+

Payment may be withheld if you:

  • Fail to interact properly with Our Agent or refuse required prompts.
  • Have poor audio quality or excessive background noise.
  • Experience interruptions during the study.
  • Record the wrong screen or miss required permissions.
  • Upload incomplete or corrupted recordings.
  • Provide inaccurate demographic information.

Payouts and Privacy

Should I use my real name and address during studies?+

Never share sensitive personal data during recorded tasks (for example, card numbers or government IDs).

Your real name and email remain private and are not shared with clients.

What personal data do I need to provide?+

You provide demographic details (age, gender, state, city, date of birth) and a UPI ID (for India-specific payouts).

This information is used for study matching and panel analytics.

Personal identifying information is not shared with clients. Shared insights are anonymized.

By default, anonymized feedback may be used for marketing; you can opt out by emailing support@usertestpro.com.

How much can I earn per month?+

Earnings depend on your rating and the number of matching studies available.

Higher-rated participants generally receive more invites.

There is no guaranteed minimum monthly earning.

Can I have more than one UserTest Pro account?+

No. Each participant may have only one account.

Duplicate accounts may be removed along with associated payments; repeated violations can lead to permanent suspension.

When will I receive payments?+

Payments for successfully completed studies are processed weekly on Friday.

Is there a fee to join the platform?+

No. Registration and qualification are free, with no hidden joining fees.

How is my privacy handled, and can my feedback be used for marketing?+

Your personally identifying information (like name and email) is never shared with clients.

Demographic data is used for matching and analytics only.

By registering, you consent to anonymized feedback usage for marketing (for example, aggregated quotes or clips without identifiers).

How do I delete my account and what happens to my data?+

Delete your account from the dashboard using "Delete Account".

Upon deletion, personal data and associated recordings are removed from servers per the Privacy Policy.

Deleted data cannot be recovered.

How can I get help or report issues?+
